youtube.com

If you want fansubs, then here is the long and detailed version:

http://www.fansub.tv

Here is all the unlicended anime you could ever want. The only thing is you need to sign up, which is free and all you have to do is give yourself a username and password. The only catch is that it takes about 1-2 hours for each episode to download.

But this site is the best! If you sign up, watch Kanon 2006 and Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru. They also have the Death Note movie (live action), plus many that you might like.

You can look through their anime section (top left), and if you see a title that you like, click on it to see the storyline and screenshots and downloads for the anime.

Follow the above paragraph. Then, to download, click on the direct download link (you will need to sign up to do this), since it is easier and I'm not sure how reliable the BitTorrents are (don't even know how to work them).

When you download them and there is only sound (only happens to my computer, but just to make sure), download this codec, and it should work:

http://www.xvid.org/

I got it from the windows media player help site. This rarely happens, there is no problem with your computer if this happens.

It's free, legal (since they are fansubs), and even though it takes a little while to download each episode, it is SOO worth it.

Please, even if you don't choose to go this way, at least check it out.

Try youtube.com, they have most of the episodes there.
You can also find some fan-made videos there.

On youtube.com, they have full length episodes and part-by-part episodes... your choice to watch. (try the part-by-part, sometimes, the full length takes WAY too long to load)
