No need to feel stupid - I'm a computer nerd and it took me longer than usual - I find the iTunes application poorly designed when it is dealing with an iPod. As the above people said, delete the songs from your iTunes library if your iPod is set to automatically synchronise, or tell it not to synchronise and then you click on your iPod in iTunes, select the songs, and hit delete.

I delete songs from my ipod by connecting it to the computer and going to the ipod library and delete the song from there. That way I still have the song in itunes if I want to add it back later.

If you delete the song from itunes and then update your ipod (plug it into the computer and go to itunes) it will automatically take if off of your ipod

i put in songs manually.. i find it much easier than just pluggin in the ipod and having a truckload of songs go into my ipod (especially the ones that my sister likes and i dont) so i think it might help you.. just change it to manual then you can just delete the song from your ipod by clicking on that song and clicking delete. so it'll still be in your computer if you still want to listen to it and just dont want it in your ipod

hope this helps :)
