Of those two, the engineering program at Purdue is a bit stronger. However, are you in-state Connecticut? If so, then the discount you'll get on tuition should certainly be a factor.

Both are reputable schools, but they are quite different in feel and location. Have you visited either yet? That may help you get a better feel for them, and help you determine which is a better fit for you.

It would be hard to argue against Purdue for mechanical engineering, unless you have a compelling personal reason for going to UConn.
