Oh my..where do I start!!
-Number 1, I promise it gets easier every day!!! (although the 4th day or so is the hardest)
-You need to find a substitution for smoking. For me it was Breath Savers candies. They did wonders.
-You have to keep busy...and try to avoid places you smoke the most ie:while talking on the phone in the kitchen...etc
-If you get a craving tell yourself to wait 15 minutes..and then see how bad that craving still it.
-Find a support group..in Canada they have a phone number that you can call when you get cravings
- keep reminding yourself why you're quitting.
I never thought I could quit...I tried so many times, but I realized that I was so sick and tired of smoking and thought to myself that if I couldn't quit smoking then I couldn't do anything else. I quit and it was the best thing I could have done for me and my babies. Now I know that if I can quit smoking I can do anything! And like I said I PROMISE it will get easier. Just go day by day....
YOU CAN DO IT!! YOU CAN QUIT! YOUR BABY WILL THANK YOU!!!

After smoking for more than half my life (started at 15 years old) I am smoke-free for 13 months. I used the patch (generic kind) and my natural ability to be stubborn. I changed ALL my habits. Went in a different door at work, got busy walking after meals (instead of relaxing with a smoke), kept apple flavored gum on me at all times. The apple gum tastes nasty while smoking sooo...I chewed it all the time. Maybe there's something you've noticed doesn't taste so good with a smoke? Use it to your advantage.

Smell a dirty ashtray whenever you have the urge to light up. Very disgusting and kills the urge.

Spend time places where smoking is prohibited. Libraries, malls, etc. Reward yourself for small victories. Each day reward yourself. Or save up the money you'd have spent on cigarettes and buy yourself a prize at the end of the week.

Remember, you didn't learn to smoke in one day so it may take you a few times to quit. Oh, you're gonna be crabby! That's how I knew I was addicted and that it is always hard to "get clean" no matter what drug your trying to quit.

I never thought I'd be a non-smoker. Start calling yourself one and you'll become it!

It is going to be soo hard for you to quit...it was hard on me..

Suggestion 1...have gum with you at all times no matter where you are. Part of smoking (appart from the addictive niqutine) is an oral fixation. By poping a piece of gum everytime you feel the urge to have a cig will help to reduce the craving.

Suggestion 2...when you go out to eat, sit in the no smoking section. Then you won't have the urge b/c you wont' be around smokers.

Suggestion 3..have someone else that you trust with all your heart to hold your pack.

Suggestion 4...lose the lighter or matches....if you don't have a lighter or matches with you when you go out, you won't be able to light up in the car or anything.

Suggestion 5...congure up all the will power in the world to help you.

I hope this helped. Best of luck quitting and with the pregancy. Keep us posted

I quit smoking when I was about 4-5 weeks along - right after I found out I was pregnant. I didn't WANT to stop - but I did cold turkey. That's the only way and the best way.
It's not about you anymore - it's ALL about your baby. Your baby didn't ask to breathe in all of those chemicals and toxins. Plus if you keep smoking, there's a chance your baby will be premature - and will have to stay in the hospital. That will cost you a lot more than a carton of cigarettes. Smoking during pregnancy will also harm the baby long term.
Please do your baby and favor and no matter how hard it is for you - quit.

When you figure it out, please let me know as well. I'm 24 weeks and still haven't mastered the art of quitting. I did cut back tremendously, but I still want to quit. Everytime I decide I'm going cold turkey and don't have a cig. for about 6 or 7 hours, I start to feel sick. Of course, I went from 2 packs a day and I'm down to about 5 or 6 a day. I also try to just puff on the cigarette, I don't inhale it as much as possible. So, I guess my advice is put yourself on a schedule to smoke less and less cigarettes every day. But, don't make yourself sick with worry over this. Women have been smoking during their pregnancies for centuries and we didn't have a world full of deformed, asthmatic babies, now did we?

right when i found out i was pregnant, i quit smoking. which was EXTREMELY hard for me considering i had always used smoking as something when i was stressed out. and at that point in time i was more stressed than i ever remember being before. so it was hard for me to quit, but i just remembered all the risks that are associated with smoking while pregnant. and that i would much rather have a healthy baby than have that one cigerette to calm myself down. maybe try looking it up? do some research on what happens when smoking while pregnant. because hun, you really need to quit. its honestly not worth it. i'm glad that you understand that you need to stop, thats the first step. here are some tips i found from the website (will list it in the source thing below so you can check it out). as corny as some of them sound, its worth a shot right?

Smoking: Tips to Quit

Write down your reasons for quitting. Look at the list when you are tempted to smoke.

Choose a “quit day.” On that day, throw away all your cigarettes, lighters and ashtrays.

Stay away from places, activities or people that make you feel like smoking.

Ask your partner or a friend to help you quit, and call that person when you feel like smoking.

Ask your health care provider about quitting aids such as patches, gum, nasal spray and medications. Don’t start using these without your health care provider’s okay especially if you are pregnant.

Don’t get discouraged if you don’t quit completely right away. Keep trying. If you can’t quit, cut back as much as you can.

The Tobacco Research and Intervention Program (TRIP) helps women who are pregnant and who have quit smoking to remain smoke-free. For an informational booklet about staying smoke-free, call this toll free number (877) 954-2548.

Ask your employer to see what services are offered or covered by insurance.

Learn about smoking cessation programs in your
community. You can get more information from you health care provider, hospital or health department. The organizations listed below can also help:

National Partnership to Help Pregnant Smokers Quit

The American Legacy Foundation

You may also call the toll-free number (800) QUIT-NOW.

good luck! and dont be embarassed to talk to your doctor about it. might suggest a patch, pill, gum, something that will help you at least cut back

I was an extreme smoker and when I found out I was pregnant 6 weeks I had to stop and think about the living thing inside my body. I remember before I was pregnant I saw a few pregnant women who smoked and I use to think to myself how disgusting and selfish they are for destroying a beautiful being inside. YOU JUST HAVE TO STOP AND CALL IT QUITS. I know it is very hard to quit but it is not all about you anymore it is for you baby; your beautiful baby inside you. To give up smoking is worst than a heroin addict trying to quit. Also, there will be times where you want to have a smoke but after you stop smoking for 2 weeks the nicotine from your body will start to diminish. Making the cravings less. Yes, there will be times where you are with your friends who smoke but and you will have that craving again and again but you just have to ignore it. You also maybe used to doing the same routine like having a cigarette after you eat, after a good gossip conversation with a friend; or after having sex etc. Whenever the craving starts just think of your little one inside you. Just remember how guilty you will feel after you smoke that cigarette. DO NOT SMOKE! Peace and good luck……

Smoking is a terrible addiction and it is hell to stop. But you can do it. I quit nine years ago. What you need to do is find something else to occupy your hands and your mouth. I started doing cross stich and sucking hard candy. Of course, I also had several relatives die of lung cancer so I just kept that in mind. It also doesn't hurt to have a smoker come in from smoking a cigarette. Now that you've quit you'll be able to smell how terrible they stink. Then you realize that you stunk like that, too. Hang in there and good luck.

WELL I AM NOT PREGNANT :( ALTHOUGH ME AND MY HUSBAND ARE TRYING VERY HARD TO CONCIEVE. I RECENTLY MADE THE CHOICE TO QUIT SMOKING BECAUSE I KNOW I WILL HAVE TO IF I GET PREGNANT AND I FIGURED IT WOULD BE EASIER NOW RATHER THAN THEN. ANYWAYS I HAVE BEEN SMOKE FREE FOR 19 DAYS. IN MY CASE I WAS ABLE TO "JUST QUIT" ...DONT GET ME WRONG IT WASNT EASY AND SOME DAYS I THINK IM GONNA GO INSANE, BUT I KEEP TELLING MYSELF NOT TO BE WEAK, AND TO BE STRONG!.... HERES MY ADVICE TO YOU:
TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT USING NICOTINE PATCHES, IF YOU CANT QUIT ON YOUR OWN THESE MY HELP AND ARE SLIGHTLY LESS HARMFUL TO YOU AND THE BABY THAN CIGARETTES. ALSO, GET SOME CANDY, MAYBE SOME SUCKERS OF SOMTHIN TO KEEP YOU HANDS AND MOUTH BUSY, IT HELPS WITH THE PHYSICAL URGE OF SMOKING. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST TAKE ALL THE NEGATIVE RESPONSES PEOPLE HAVE POSTED AND USE THEM TO YOUR ADVANTAGE, LET THAT ANGER INSIDE OF YOU BECOME YOUR MOTIVATION...PROVE THEM WRONG! SHOW THEM THAT AND YOURSELF THAT YOU CAN DO THIS!!! ... I HOPE SOME OF THIS WILL BE OF HELP TO YOU...........DONT WORRY I BELIEVE IN YOU! GOOD LUCK!
