Is there a way to opt to get paid semi monthly?

Holy Crap - You missed the point.

We just had a baby and the extra $300/mo would be better than getting 2 extra big checks during the year. Yes, in the long run it would be cool to get 2 extra checks, however, the extra money would come in handy. We manage our funds quite well, thank you very much. It's the extra that could help considering we just had a baby. Don't be a dillweed.

It would depend on the employer

Actually, getting paid bi-weekly is a better deal. Some months you will get an extra paycheck. You get paid 26 times a year at a bi-weekly rate, and 24 times a year semi-monthly. It should give you a slightly better cash flow, even though the total amount of pay over a year's time is the same. To answer your specific question, it is unlikely that your employer will allow you to ask for payment on a different schedule --- that would be extremely inconvenient for the payroll department.

Bi weekly is better than semi monthly. You just need to learn to manage your finances better. Really, it's only a matter of 2 to 3 days we're ta;lomg about.

26 paychecks instead of 24 shouldn't make a difference. Get adjusted. Your getting paid faster.
Try calling your HR department and explain your situation. They will laugh.

You can ask, but how does it hurt your income outside of initially?? Usually employers pay biweekly because it is how people are billed esp. in the Western side of the US.
