Basically it is just me providing a serivice to people (legal of course) but I know people are more comfertable with giving their money to a company than to just some guy they barely know.

I think it will be easier to gain their trust having a business name, and it will help if they make their checks out to the name of the business. But then of course I will need to be able to cash those checks.

So what is need to open a business account?

the bank will ask for Articles of Organization/Formation, EIN and will need your Corporate Resolution about opening a bank account. if you don't have a resolution, some banks have a their own fill-in-the-blanks resolution for you to use.

visit your nearest banking center. they will surely give you an advice.

Go to the government IRS web site and fill in the online application with a Doing Business As (DBA) name of your business and get an instant EIN Tax number.

Open a business checking account under that new tax number... I help people do this all the time. Its a free service. Don't let anyone make you pay over the Internet to do it.

Your bank will ask you for a copy of your business registration (not a license, just the registration)

Go to your county/city clerk office and register your business. In Virginia, this only takes 30 minutes and about $20, though each state will vary

If it's just you, all you need is a business license, photo id, and a signature card. If you are likely to have employees, you might want to get a tax number from the IRS.
