As far as I know, you can't. Some compactors have a feature that lets you hard pack the items. What it does is shut the compactor off after the ram travels to the bottom of the cycle. This holds the trash in a compacted state so it doesn't "spring back" so easily. You might be able to mimic this by turning it off before the ram returns to the top.Let it set overnight & turn back on.
