I HATE THE RAIDERS!!!!
But they are in serious need of an upgrade on the O line.
Someone earlier said they have no one to throw the ball but a solid O line will provide the time for even a mediocre QB to shine. That said I hope Davis keeps doing what he's doing cause Raider nation the ol' silver and black will still have a commitment to cellar dwelling for the foreseeable future.

Calvin Johnson may be the best player in the draft overall, but the Raiders do have a good receiving corps. What they lack is a guy to throw them the ball. Everyone says Calvin Johnson would have had better numbers had his QB been better...So the QB situation dictates your pick...even though Joe Thomas looks impressive, offensive linemen will be available in the later rounds and don't forget about free agency.
The obvious choice here is Russell...

I would pick Calvin Johnson, the guy is a freak that runs a 4.35 40 at 6'4 240 LB's. He would have put up monster numbers in college except for a dicey QB situation. He is the type of player that will turn any offense around. I question the Thomas pick in that some scouts think he is soft and perhaps a more natural right tackle. Jamarcus Russell while with a huge arm is known for having questionable decision making. He also doesn't have great mobility. There is a lot more to being a QB than just pure arm strength.

If I were Al Davis first, trade Moss and Porter. Draft Calvin Johnson #1 and many O-linemen in the other rounds. I don't think Davis wants a QB to develope. He wants one that will "just win" now. That QB is Matt Schuab. He needs to do what he has to (aside trade #1 pick) to get him. Russell is a great talent, but not worthy of the first pick. Someone will trade up to #3 to get him after Johnson and Thomas go #1 & #2.

Honestly they are going to take a quarterback and it will be Jamarcus. This kid is insane, there is a lot of potential to work with and probably the strongest arm in football, which can't be taught. the o line can be improved with good scouting and later draft picks, this issue really needs to be solved through free agency, but that might be a little late for now. They have added a decent core and will get better every year. Don't draft Calvin Johnson because a receiver is worthless if your team can't throw the ball or even get the chance. Pick up the guy that is bigger than most of the guys trying to tackle him and let him gun it down the field.

Even though Oakland does need O-Line help, if you have the first pick I think you should take the best player in the draft. That would be Calvin Johnson this year. If the're not going to take the best player, I think they should trade the #1 pick and get a couple extra drafts this year to try and shore up the many holes they have. Good o-linemen will still be available in the 2nd round and drafting a QB with the first pick isn't going to help them win more games next year.

No. I watched the workout of the QB from LSU. He has a cannon for a arm. 6'5" and 245 lbs he is a tank. Al Davis likes to go verticle. The Raiders have only picked 1 QB in the 1st round since Ken Stabler retired that has done anything, Marc Wilson from BYU. He would be a fool not to take Russell.

either way you go you take a risk. many successful OL get drafted after the 1st round...but so do some QBs. i think the real question is are you drafting for need or best player available. while Russell isn't neccessarily the best player available, he might posses what that offense needs. plenty of QB have made it through being beat up early on(ie Manning, McNabb)

Two reasons I think Al Davis won't pick Thomas:
1. He loves to draft flashy players in the first round. If they don't take a QB, they will draft Calvin Johnson (big mistake).
2. The last time they drafted an OL in the first (Robert Gallery), the results to justify the pick.
Personally, I agree with you: offensive stability starts with the O-line. But Davis is a dinosaur who needs to sell him team. Of course, I hate the ******* Raiders, so I hope he doesn't. :)
Go Steelers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aaron Curry. He tried out and expressed he might want to help turn around the Lions. despite if Matthew Stafford is the subsequent Johnny Unitas, they won't win extra effective than 2 video games with a protection that doesn't stress the QB and helps a hundred and seventy yards consistent with recreation. a frontrunner in protection is via a techniques the Lions maximum urgent want.
