Wow, this is easy...but hard at the same time. It has taken me so many years to get to that point, where I don't become affected by others. Don't get sucked into conversations. Just watch, observe the "negative" energy. You will find, once becoming a "people watcher" that they really act silly and you won't want to become like that. Just keep quiet when negativity goes on; don't become part of the problem.

Increase the beauty around you: music, art, tv shows, good ppl, and values.

"I have this theory that if we’re told we’re bad
Then that’s the only idea we’ll ever have.
But maybe if we’re surrounded in beauty
Someday we will become what we see.
‘Cause anyone can start a conflict
It’s harder yet to disregard it
I’d rather see the see the world from another angle.
We are everyday angels - Be careful with me ‘cause I’d like to stay that way."

Do some self-esteem work. I have to do this, myself. If you're confident enough in who you are, etc. then the opinions of others won't matter one lick to you. As for annoyances outside of the whole "self" issue, volunteer work seems to help most people gain a better perspective. Like at the local SPCA, or children's hospital or old folk's home or something.

Seek to understand why people say what they do. Instead of immediately reacting (even emotionally) ask yourself why would he/she say that?

Many times I find the reason to be just that they're stupid. Therefor I just dismiss since it has no reasoning behind it anyway. It's just a random outburst of stupidity.

Or it could be they are saying it simply to get a reaction. In this case it's superficial so again pay no mind to it.

Don't place so much value on other people's comments or actions. Switch off and thank goodness you are not like that and then just move on. Just DON'T allow it to get to you. Do your own thing and find yourself irrespective of other people.

Try some relaxation techniques like breathing, controlling your thoughts (thinking about something else), thy to distance yourself. People are often annoying, we just have to learn how to get over that.
