I never really thought about it for a name, but now that I am, it would be pretty awesome. The name really caught my attention when Evanescence (the band) first showed up. Peaked my interest. I want my name to be Evanescence! LOL!
P.S. If you're a fan of Evanescence and you named your daughter Evanescence, it could get pretty confusing. Imagine...'Oh my God! Evanescence is the bomb!' Father of baby breaking in, 'What?! Evanescence has a bomb?!'
Pardon my stupidness!

It's a beautiful word, and is much more than just a band. However, I wouldn't use it as a first name. It's hard to spell, long to write, and a bit extreme as far as unusual names go. Also, it means "fleeting, temporary"...not exactly conveying wishes of a long, happy life. I agree that it would be a pretty middle name (again, beware the meaning though!).
[EDIT]
How about Vanessa? It has many of the same sounds as Evanescence, and it means "butterfly."

I am sorry to say, but I think that is a terrible name for a girl. You shouldn’t name your kids after a rock band unless you want them to get picked on. I know it is hard to say a name is original anymore these days but naming a girl Evanescence would just be lazy.

Imagine your baby girl all grown up, walking into a board room or a job interview. Would she be taken seriously or would her name be a hindrance? I think it would be a hindrance. Also, evanescence is a beautiful word but it means bubbly. What if she doesn't have a bubbly personality? I like unusual names but this one might be a little too unusual. Try it as a middle name.

I think it's beautiful. If I named my daughter Evanescence I would call her Evan. Love it!

Think about it - when the band is over, defunct, and nobody has heard of it ever again, like in about twenty years, your poor daughter will STILL be having to spell that long, unwieldy word for her teachers.
Don't be surprised if she goes all "A Boy Named Sue" on yo' a s s as soon as she's old enough. Or changes it to Jenny.

Don't burden a child with a cumbersome name; just think of every time she will have to spell it out as she gets older! The poor kid. Yes, it's got a pretty ring to it, but perhaps something a little less complicated would be more practical. Good luck!

I'll be the lone one and say I like it, it's unique, I know it is the band, but really,ALMOST ALL of the people I know use my nickname, for evanescnece it would be Eva. So many people don't know my whole name but it is SOOOOOOO nice to have a lot of options for a nick name. I'm really glad I wasn't named a short name I could never make different.

That would be a mouthful for the little one...its pretty but way to long especially with a last name and possibly a middle one...how about Evanel or something like that??
