depending on the occasion, try your hand with a pair of scissors and some colored paper,ribbons,about anything you might have on hand if put together nicely will make a lovely invite

If you have a computer or know someone who does, you can always create invites on PowerPoint and then print them all up. Try something like that, or even The Dollar Store! I've done that, very cheap and turned out really well =)

If all of your invitees have email then you can do a virtual invite with www.evite.com they have them for ALL occasions!
I like to use old blank cards, thank you notes, left over thinking of you cards things like that.
If you dont want to do them in word, you can make a pretty design in Paint and print the details on the inside of the paper.
If you have little ones, you can commission them to personalize the invite for your guests!

You can go to Walmart and get a nice program that you can make things like wedding invitations. I think American Greeting Cards has a program and then go to the stationary dept. and get the paper you want and there you go.
