My daughter loves to listen to music and requested one of these for her birthday!! She's going to be 13 and she knows more about the ipod because most of her friends have one. However I heard of this new Zune by Microsoft(I think) and now have the option of purchasing either one. What would be a better buy. Also the ipod is a 30GB with the video screen stuff.Thanks for your input!!

Go for the Zune! I'm a teen and a girl, so I know what we like. I used to have a black ipod, but after I saw my friends using it, I tried it, loved it, and then bought one. Now I don't ever regret going back towards the ipod. The Zune has just so many functions. The people who say it's all bad, just hate the Zune because it's not an ipod, it's made from Microsoft, and all that silly nonsense. If you don't believe me, here is some reasons why me and my friends bought Zunes:
1. bigger screen
2. scratch-resistant, durable
3. feels nice in the palm of your hand, really
4. has a nice UI design (way better than ipod)
5. has wi-fi feature so you can send songs & pics to other Zunes
6. has built-in FM tuner
7. you can change the background picture for the whole menu system
8. Zune software has a subscription feature so you can download a lot for 1 flat price
9. can integrate with the Xbox 360
10. you can view videos and some pics in landscape mode (on it’s side) so you just turn it on it’s left side (makes it great for watching videos)
11. you can get 14 day free-trial for Zune Marketplace
12. has the newest and latest technology
But since this is for your daughter's use, and not your's, I suggest you bring your daughter to the store to see herself which one she likes best. I'm not sure, but I think us teens sometimes get disappointed when our friends have this, and we have something different. Not that the Zune is bad (definitely not!) but she might be against the Zune the first time, based on rumors she might have heard of. I know what's real and what's not. So get her opinion before you buy it. You don't want to give her something she might hate, based on popularity. My reasons might help her buy a Zune. I actually sell these products and have owned many mp3 players, Ipods are popular only because of the name, sure they have a lot of accessories but the antipiracy software is a pain, it locks up your ipod or your itunes, its a big pain. I have the creative zen vision 30gb video/mp3 player and i have had zero problems with it, walmart and amazon sell tv shows and movies for those players. Trust me ipods are just worthless after about a year, even as a paperweight.

I like my Zen Vision M with it AVI codec support: motion jpeg, xvid, divix. MPG-1, -2,-4SP, WMV support, and of course the FM Radio, MP3, and WMA Play back.
But if you have to limit your self to those two choices, I'd go with the ZUNE, it supports all the Apple Ipod formats plus the MS formats, has a bigger screen, an FM radio, and Zune to Zune sharing.

Creative Zen Vision M is better than both. it is just as nice as both with 30GB plays video and music and less expensive. lets see the zune is made by Microsoft need i say more. The i-pod? made by the fascist Apple inc. are you kidding me they cater to the whiney rich artists who can't spare to not make a few hundred dollars. go with the Zen its easy to use and it will save you money. you wont regret anything.

zune cause ipod you cant download off of sertent websites (u
can only down load off of the ipod company for the ipod)
