My daughter is 17 months old. When I take her to the Dr for her well baby checks, her height-weight ratio isnt even on the charts. She is so tiny. She JUST grew out of her 6/9 months clothes! She was an avrage sized baby, 6 lbs. 12 oz. and 19 inches. My Dr acts very casual about it and finally ordered some blood tests, an Insulin Like Growth Factor test and others. Has anyone else experienced this?

If your baby is staying on an upward path, whether or not it's on those lines on the chart, I wouldn't worry. Her other measurements, like head circumference must be all right. Her developmental progress socially, verbally and physically she's most likely fine.

My son was in the same boat. He was in the 1-2 percentile range until his 18 month check up when he finally broke through to the 5-percentile. He had all kinds of tests: blood tests, an upper GI, development tests. But he's fine. He's STILL wearing his six month onsies (comfortably) under his regular shirts and pants. I can't even put him in anything other than overalls because they fall right off. I was a skinny-mini too, so look at your development and your partner's. There's a lot of genetics involved.

If you're concerned, I'd talk to your doc at the 18-month appointment about supplementing her with Pediasure. My doc advised that and it helped. She also told me to add a little more straight-out fat to my son's diet -- like putting butter on his veggies and toast and giving him full fat yogurt and cheese. Good luck!

When a baby falls below the 3rd percentile then it does raise some concern. My daughter is tiny and petite for a 20 month old but is still measurable on the charts. There are different reasons why a child can fall below the 3rd percentile, so it's good that your doctor is running some tests.

My daughter is small. 31 months old. 22 lbs and 34 inches. Which is 5-10 % for height and under 5 % for weight. She is just small, nothing wrong with her physically, she is very active, and bright. Every child grows different.

I would rule out any physical problems that she may have with these tests, if all come back, just love her, feed her and keep her safe.

I would definitely ask the doctors at Children's Hospital she may have a growth on her pituitary gland that gland that makes and regulates growth hormone....may your daughter be well....

yup. It means lots of visits to specialists. The most important thing is to find out why to fix it, or it could be genetics. All my kids are small, but they also have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
