I have windows 2000 and do not want to upgrade to XP. Can I just purchase a disc from a retailer like Best Buy and slip it in the "D" drive, then follow prompts? I've never had to do this but I keep getting error messages that this files missing or that files corrupted. Just want to know if it is a simple process or complicated undertaking!
Thanks for your help!

Windows 2000 is no longer sold in retail stores. However, all is not lost! Since you are going to change anyway, I recommend getting a good open source software anyway. You will like it, it is easier to install than Windows XP/Vista as there are no activation hassels, and no huge 16 or 25 digit numbers that have to be typed in exactly right.
It is free and at www.kubuntu.org

Try one of the free LINUX distributions.

My favourite is UBUNTU (or XUBUNTU if your computer has less than 256MB of RAM).

It's a free, reliable and up to date operating system.

You can explore it from the "LIVE CD".

It's easy to install and use. You can dual boot it with other operating systems.

Once you have it installed, you gain access to thousands of free programs created by the open source community. There is excellent support - see the WIKI starter guide, and the Linux forums.

Always back up your data before making changes to your computer.

Go to www.microsoft.com. You will find it there.
