I'm guessing this is a homework question. Here's a hint: if this IS a homework question, you've violated your school's ethics by posting the question here. However, you may not have violated your personal value.

If this isn't a homework question, consider what I just said. It will lead you to the answer you seek.

Personal Values are a part of professional ethics, but what is being divided here is what you would do at a workplace and what you wouldn't do. Like you personally might believe that people who spank their kids aren't providing discipline because hitting doesn't solve anything, but professionally a client consumer etc. might grip their child's arm to get them to stop pulling on something, but you professionally can't say anything, because professional ethics are about what is conducive to business and while you might try to make a case for people's negative actions/attitudes hurting the company you work for. Those people still give your company money and therefore are needed so your personal values are about what you do in the same situation as the parent; whereas your professional values are what you are willing to ignore to not lose business.

They collide when perhaps you are a principal and one of the many students who can't get free lunch either due to their parents or outside forces beyond their control are rapidly losing weight, because their parent can't feed them. As a principal you have to go through the proper channels of CPS and DSHS, but as a person you want to feed the child lunch. The problem is that if you feed the child lunch, that isn't covered in the budget and you could not only be fired, but lose professional creditable by breaching the channels you are supposed to take. On the other hand, if you go through those channels it may take to long for the student to get help. What do you do? That is where professional and personal collide.

Professional Ethics concerns one's conduct of behaviour and practice when carrying out professional work. Personal values are your personal beliefs in what is right and wrong. When they collide depending on the person it could mean quiting your job, or hating it becoming unhappy and feeling downright bad for some of the things you had to do for your career that you wouldnt personaly do to people you care about. Loan officers expierience this problem often as well as insuarance agents. they rip people off lie to them and mislead them. I dont know how they sleep at night.

Professional ethics are a set of rules which govern specific situations and actions of those in said profession. It is strictly pertaining to work and office related activities.

Example: When an engineer is deciding on buying a contract he is not allowed to accept any gifts of any value from bidding companies.

Personal values are another set of rules which an individual places upon himself. These rules are usually a guide to help him make decisions in sticky situations.

Example: You eat at a restaurant and notice the waiter didn't charge you for something. You bring it to his attention, because your personal values of fairness and integrity guide you to do that.
