I would like to erase everything from my hard drive, except Windows XP. The computer was store-bought and was a gift, so I don't think it came with an XP CD.

Please help?

Thanks =)

I'm sorry, I forgot to say that my computer is so messed up that I can't even get into 'Add/Remove Programs'.
(I'm on a different computer right now.)

This can be a problem? Last time I checked there is no way you can erase everything from your computer and just keep Windows XP on there. You have to get somebody to make you a FORMATING CD, or buy a FORMATING CD from a store. Some stores are (comp u.s.a.) (Best buy) (Circuit city * best chance is this store here) and (Computer World). Once you get the formating cd then just pop it in to your computer and then let the computer do the rest. You might have to answer a few questions depending on the type of computer your working with. That should do it. Oh and one more thing **you can get a copy of WINDOWS XP from circuit city, or any of the stores i listed above. After you formatted your computer, then just put the WINDOWS XP cd in the computer and answer the questions and there you go. You have now completely wiped your computer. For any questions regarding formating your computer, then contact me at Sorowsblade@yahoo.com and i will be happy to help you out. Ok i have to finish building my ALIENWARE computer, talk to you later.

this is an easier way to erase everything back to how you bought it. if the computer was store bought and it already had windows XP on it then dont worry about a cd. when you start the computer and the computer name comes on hit the f10 button... well hold it down then it should come to a screen that says a message about reformatting the computer or system recovery. if there is a button that says [advanced] click it then click destruction or destruction mode.

what that is , is a reformatrting program that restores the computer to its original settings that it came how you bought it... if you need any more help then just email me!

You cannot. The way PC's are built today you cannot format the hard drive yourself. You must have the system CD's that came with the PC and do a full restore. That will bring it back exactly as it was shipped from the factory.

1.Use add remove programs and remove all applications from there.
2. Clic on my documents select all and delete.
3. Erase all traces from web: IE-tools-intnernet options and choose delete Internet browsing.
4 clic on "my computer" then choose "C" and look if you have anything left else then windows and delete it manualy.

that should take out the most of it.

if it was store-bought it should come with either a CD or a copy on a separate partition to enable you to reinstall it (assuming the microsoft tax was paid - that is legally purchased)
