I think something maybe going on with one of my relative's child and I am concerned. He has an older brother and he has had quite a few episodes of grabbing his brother's "you know what" and pulling on it and laughing. Naturally - this really upsets the older child and the younger is scolded for doing it. The younger child stays with his "Nana and Papa" (grandparents) quite often. One time I guess he was supposed to go there and he was crying hysterically and was telling his Uncle..."Please, please....I don't wanna go to Papa's house...Papa different, Papa tickles me...I don't like when Papa tickles me" then his Mom walked in and he clammed up. Do you think I am being too suspicious or does that seem to signal a red flag? This man "Papa" has even bragged about how when his first wife was in bed dying - he was "pleasuring her with his finger" (how sick is that?) I have taken care of more than 30 kids over the past 15 yrs and I have never seen a kid do that. Serious answers please! Thnx!

I was abused as a 4 year old child by a neighbour. When he would approach the house, I would scream and cry and hide under my bed. NOBODY picked up on that red flag and so, NOBODY protected me from him.

The behaviour that you describe, in my opinion, goes beyond a red flag. Someone needs to ask the child what he means when he says that papa "tickles". There have been many cases of abuse where the abuser names parts "toys" or activities "playing" and so, when the child reports that Mr. Paedophile was "playing with his toys" it would not arouse suspicion. I think you are very smart to have recognized the problem and now, please- protect that child.

Yes, you have every reason to be concerned. Something is not right. That poor child needs help fast! Do you feel comfortable telling his mother what you believe is happening? If not you can call child protective services and remain anonymous. For the childs sake...do something quick!

PAPA sounds like a real pervert

As a childcare provider, you are a mandated reporter in most states. Mandated reporter, in general terms, means that you are in a position of trust related to children (other examples might be doctors, social workers, teachers, or child care aides), and that you must report suspicion of child abuse or neglect.

Mandated reporters are generally required to report their concerns within a specific period of time, ie. 72 hours, in some states. Mandated reporting does not mean you are responsible for determining the merits of your suspicions. You are simply required to report if you "suspect" abuse.

While the situation you describe may be harmless or may mean a child is endangered, it's not your decision to make. A mandated reporter is required to report suspicion of abuse, or face penalty in many cases.

Ease your mind, look up your local Department of Social Services and make a report. The person who answers the phone will most likely be willing to answer your question informally, but will encourage you to make a report.

Best of luck. Reporting abuse when you are uncertain is always a tough call to make. The child may thank you one day for calling attention to the problem.

This is a serious problem. The way to deal with this is to notify child services. They will actually interview the child without any adults being in the room. This is the only way to legally deal with this. Another option is by putting a voice activated tape recorder in the childs bag and putting it in a safe place. This will also tell the story.

Children of that age begin to explore their sexuality and it's possible he is simply interested about the genitals of other people (according to Freud children identify with the parent of the same sex). However, based on what the child said, it might be that this "Papa" person is abusing the child.

You should definitely speak to DHR about this one. Speak to them anonymously & tell them everything that you know & have heard & have seen first hand.
Children are fragile & if he thinks its okay for him to do such things, he'll more likely do the same thing to a child when hes older.
He needs to be seen & talked to. If what youre saying is true; he needs to be seen by a professional & the sooner the better.

Papa sounds like a perv. Do what you can to ensure that the child is not allowed near that man. Talk to this parents, tell them what you have told us. Good luck.

There seems to be cause for concern here. When a kid begs not to be left somewhere or with someone- I think it usually means some sort of abuse or neglect is occuring. If you say something, be prepared for some of your relatives to 'disown'.

Definitely sounds like trouble to me. Perhaps "Mom" had experienced something similar in her youth and learned to deal with it by shutting it out? Denial is a strong de-motivator.
