Brian Greene's "Elegant Universe" is easy reading and covers all the theories regarding gravity and the other three fundamental forces: strong and weak atomic, and EM. Greene also has a web site with lots of stuff on the four forces (including gravity).

There is a simple paper written "Three Simple Questions Concerning Gravity" (I believe paper #41) found at http://360.yahoo.com/noddarc that asks three questions, which if the reader responds truthfully, they will come to a conclusion on their own. There are other short papers listed that cover the same subject.
