I noticed when my fish black spot at the bottom of her belly got really dark she was ready. As for nets just put in lots of plants they should be ok. Also if you can find the PLASTIC brillo pads (the cheap kind that comes with a brillo pad holder) I found these to work really well. They float and babbies can get in but the mothers can't. Make sure it's plastic tho. Never metal!

There aren't really any sure fire signs that she is just about to start giving birth. You can look for her to be hiding more, stop eating, staying at the bottom... all of those may or may not happen right before she gives birth.

I would say to put her in the breeding net when she is really big and the back part of her belly is kind of "squared off" in shape, that usually happens just a few days before the babies are born.

I am mainly a goldfish expert but i just started growing and breeding guppies and man oh man is it funnier then goldfish, but my guppy gave birth yesterday. So i will tell you what i saw, ok it had a big stamch but not as big as it was going to explode, and you could see a little black eye of the little fish in here, Well befor eall that she stops eating and she dosen't swim as much, but when she starts giving birth she can't swim and lays on the bottom and starts gasping for air really rapidly looks like she's sick and then pop the little fry come out

Yes its true, the area just behind her anal fin will get very dark and she will look like she is ready to explode. Can put her into your breeding area any time now. Give her time to get used to the new area and relax. Yeah can use the plastic scrubbies and plants that are thickly laid in her area. As soon as she is done giving birth, take her out of the breeder net. Mom fish do eat their own young. She may even do this as the little ones come out. Hopefully you have a place for her to rest for awhile or she will become pregnant again. The males will chase her till they get her. Have many females with only one or two males. That way the girls get to rest for awhile. Have fun with your new brood. Have fish fry food ready for the newcomers before they arrive. Can use smashed flakes or run a finger on the inside of the flake container. You will pick up very small pieces of food almost like dust. This is good to start with.
