I think maybe one reason they were originally yellow might be because, no matter what color ink you are using your print shows up best on yellow.

Oftentimes, the standard yellow is what office supply dealers sell in bulk for the best deal. Therefore, that is why you often see the yellow ones in offices.
It is interesting to note, that the traditional canary yellow color of the post-it notes are a trademark of the 3M company.

Yellow was the original color. Now they come in a rainbow of hues. On my desk right now I have: orange, aqua, purple, and lime green post-its No yellow ;D

You have to get out more. Post-it note pads have been many colors for years. I have blue at home.

they're not they just originally came like that at first. Now they have all types of sizes and different colors :P
my favorite color is probably the light blue, pretty and perfect sized for quick note taking.

They're not always yellow. They make all different colors. I guess they used to always be yellow because yellow as an easier color to make paper,and it was their original color.

the reason they started in yellow was because that was what they had extra to begin with.
now they come in various shapes and size as well as colors.
I have neon pink, green, orange, yellow and purple
can't wait until they come in black.
