A neighbors washing machine leaked causing water damage to my walls. The leak has since been repaired. There is mold growing at the base of my wall (which is made of drywall). The thing is, the wall is behind my water heater and furnance which are in a closet together (tight space).

Who would I call to have repairs made, since in order to get to the molded drywall the water heater and furnance would have to come out. What kind of skilled worker handles molded dry wall anyway, carpenters?

Typically, how much would something like this cost (the mold does not cover a large area but when the furnance is turned on it blows out this musty smell all over the house so the problem can't just me ignored).

The molded drywall in a less tight space was cut out and patched up. Is this normally how moldy drywall is taken care of?

If your neighbors washing leaked and it damaged your property then you have a right to take this person to court for restitution. Their homeowners or renters insurance should cover this. You can also try to contact your insurance and see what can be done.
Don't hire a "handy" man to take out the furnace and the hot water tank. You need to sleep sound at night and you don't need to worry that some "Mr. Fixit" hooked the gas or electric up correctly.
You should replace the sheetrock for sure. Killz works but it justs covers it up. Mold can still grow in the same area and you won't see it. This can lead to health issues such as allergies, asthma, or other respitory illnesses.

You're right the best way to take care of mold is to get rid of it. Drywall is cheap. Usually less than $10.00 for a 4X8 sheet. It's easy to put up, and can be done by any handy person (not necessary handyman). All it takes is a hammer and some sheet rock nails (or drywall screws, which ever you prefer). Green rock is a type of drywall for areas that have a tendency to get wet (it's a little more expensive, but worth the extra expense). However, there is a product called Kiltz that you can paint on the wall that seals it. If you are scrapping off the mold you should wear rubber gloves and a face mask (mold is toxic), then paint on the kiltz. or you can get spray cans of kiltz. As far as your furnace and water heaters go, a really handy handy person can handle the removal of those also. If you start calling specialists, like a heating and air guy, the costs will be excessive. All you need is to find someone reasonably priced who can handle the drywall and the furnace and water heater. Sorry about your neighbors causing this problem, maybe they (or you) have homeowners insurance to cover the problem? God Bless, Martha S.

The cellar desires a dehumidifier to take the water out of the air and save mildew from becoming. do no longer shop something down there untill you get one as issues will only get moldy. Dehumidifiers pass by employing pints which skill what share pints of water that's going to take out of the are in a 24 hour era.. in the experience that your cellar is approximately 1500 ft you pick a 70 pint one. if that's one thousand ft you pick a 50 pint one. they have a hose you may put in the drain so which you do no longer ought to empty it daily. From the sounds of your cellar an more advantageous one is extra appropriate. I have been given a Whirtpool 70 pint for my 1500 cellar. i'm able to now shop issues down there and that they do no longer smell musty or get mildew. It fee around $250
