It bugs me too. I'm doing an English degree and it really annoys me when people misspell words, and when the apostrophes are in the wrong place. Grrr...

Not only can they not spell, the grammar is incorrect also. I blame the use of instant messaging. Most people abbreviate so much, it is a way a life. BRB, TTYL and so on. Sometimes it is very hard to understand something when there are words spelled wrong. I also believe lack of pride in yourself is another problem. My pet peeve is when people say "me and somebody". I was also taught to but the other person first.

Educations sytem fails them.
Our basic instincts are obvioulsy not scholarship, but survival, feeding and multiplying.
Some need to be reminded and helped and pushed in educating.
Also, people do not read, don't like to write, because we type e-mails, and our computer checks spelling for us.
I sometimes catch myself looking at a written by hand text, and somehow expect to see the underlined with red words... Ha ha ha...

It is especially bad to see misspelled words on professionally printed signs, newspapers, etc. We used to get a little local newspaper consisting mostly of a lot of ads, and I remember seeing these handyman ads - not just one, but SEVERAL, every week - "No job to big or to small". I remember being appalled at this, even as a child.

They not only can't spell right but they aren't clever enough to click the "check spelling" option either which takes all of 2 seconds.

Because schools in America are getting worse and worse, they're concentrating on testing results without actually teaching children ANYTHING, except how to take a test and do well enough on it so the school they go to still receives their federal/state funding.

The spelling on here sometimes is atrocious. I sometimes can't even figure out what they are trying to say! People just don't seem to care if they are illiterate.

How about the fact that they constantly use loose instead of lose? Kills me!
