I bought a baby bamboo plant from patcatans right before valentines day and so far it's doing real well and it is very very cute my aunts b-day is coming up and I wanted to give her her own plant so I got and washed little rocks and a little vase and I had read online before that I think you where supposed to break off a sprout, put it in water, and seal the larger plant where you broke it off with clear nailpolish I don't want to ruin my plant. HELP!

I have spent about an hour looking up information on this for you. Generally from what I read, you should make a clean cut through the stalk and then place this cutting in clean water. Some people use root hormone (per the labels instructions) and in approximately 2 months time you should see roots. Though I must say I haven't seen anything about covering the cut with clear nail polish, but rather wax. If you do try this, you should replace the rooting hormone/water mixture once every week to prevent rot.

i purchased 2 bamboo shoots very last fall, positioned them in a clean glass vase and filled that with pink rocks that are used for fish tanks. I actually have not replaced the water yet, I do ought to operate some water each couple of weeks, yet I upload distilled water no longer tap water. My flora look tremendous and do not scent. They sit down in my kitchen window each of the time. Kitchen window is shaded by ability of a huge tree so that they are not getting direct gentle. possibly you used tap water and that's the reason your having a small problem with yours. i'd attempt washing your bamboo in distilled water and also the rocks then commencing over with sturdy water. per chance it may ward off them. sturdy success Piper

I've done it and didn't do any of the nail polish stuff. It worked just fine.
