Okay well i'm working on my buddy's computer, and it was working fine, then I just mounted the HDDs (2 of them) and then it wouldn't post, gave me 1 long beep. I remounted the ram, and nothing, then i pulled out one ram stick, it powered up just fine, but then that was with 512mb ram instead of a gig. So i shut er down, added the other stick into the 3rd ram slot, thinking it could be the controller that was damaged.

Tried again, it gets power, after about 4 seconds, unit shuts off, so i flip the switch at the back, discharge the capacitors, ground myself, pull out that stick, and try again. Now the Mobo LED doesn't turn on but all the drives and th fan get power. All i hear is a bunch of clicking sounds like from one of the HDDs... could this be power supply? I did pccheck on the second stick of ram, and found it to be a bad module... definitely could have fried his motherboard eh? Well let me know what you guys think.

Put everything back where it was and try it. Make sure you have the drive connector and jumper set properly and start over (that is if you didnt fry somethin). Take it one step at a time. start by adding the second hard drive and set its jumper correctly. Try the system and see if it boots. If not, you may have a bummer drive. If so, proceed to installing mem.

I dont know how to tell you this, I had the same issues on a home built.....
What it sounds like is the extra drives put a strain on the power supply, could be the reason for the ram dying, when you rebooted it probably finished of the power supply......The bad news, when the power supply goes, they are known for frying everything attached to the motherboard......
I would try to unplug the 2 extra drives, and see if you can get the computer to boot with the good stick of ram......If not you may have lost the motherboard, but dont toss the drives, they may still be good......

Sorry Charley! There are usually dipswitches on the mobo to reset firmware. Withuout the service manual you can't get very far. As far as the hdds ar concerned, try switching to cableselect on both of them.

Maybe you need a new power supply with higher watts
