you know that his friends was trying to find out this girls number, and your boyfriend was the one that got it and then he gave you the excuse that it was for his friend? can that be possible?

If you knew his friend wanted the number & he didn't hide having it from you then he's probably telling the truth.

Has your boyfriend cheated before? How did you find the number? I would say that while it was possible that your man was being his friend's wingman, my decision to trust him would be based on whether he has betrayed that trust before. The number alone wouldn't convict him but I would definitely be more aware of his behaviors.

maybe the boyfriend cares about friend and since the boyfriend dont want to be only one that is taken, so he wanna be one of friends that are taken.
