What!?!? 3 months!?!? NO
You should start tummy time early on. I would say 4-6 weeks. Babies typically don't like it, so be forewarned. Start with 1-5 minute durations. You will know when to quit!!! Your baby will very gradually get better at it. Encourage your baby with toys that rattle or light up or have music. Lay on the floor with him or her and make eye contact. Never leave them alone on their tummy in the beginning.

By 3-4 months, your baby should not only already be comfortable with tummy time, but should be able to use his or her arms to prop up for a while.

Check out sites like babycenter.com and americanbaby .com for developmental mildstones.

And remember, not every baby follows the developmental chart perfectly. It's really just a guide for parents to see what to work on.

Best of luck!!

I was told when I had my son 8 weeks ago to give him tummy time from the word go. Start off with giving them tummy time on your chest, so that they can hear your heart beat and know its's ok and safe. Then you can introduce him/her to a mat on the floor or something and sit with your baby so you can keep an eye on him/her. Eventually he/she will be able to have tummy time and look around. My son has tummy time on the floor already and he holds up his head and looks around. I only have him on his tummy for 5-10min a time but afew times a day :)

Don't wait 3 months! You can give them supervised tummy time as soon as possible. They should get some a day at a couple of weeks.

At three to four months you can start putting baby on his tummy for 5-10 minutes at a time, if he doesn't like it. If he does, leave him longer. He'll probably roll over and crawl sooner.

As soon as they can control their head then its time to start tummy time. It is so important to give your baby tummy time everyday as this will be his/her stepping stone to crawling (eventually). My son HATED tummy time...he would always roll over to his back so I had to try a few things to make him stay on his tummy. It didn't happen overnight but I kept trying and now he finally enjoys being on his tummy =)

I started my son when he was 2 weeks at the direction of his pediatrition. He is now 8 weeks and can push up on his hands and has almost total head control. He has also rolled over a few times this week . I say the sooner the better.

You can start doing supervised "tummy time" when they're newborns. I put it off because my daughter HATED it. She would just lay there and scream. We started doing it regularly around 3 months and eventually she got used to it.

Sometimes laying them on their tummy on your lap helps if they have gas.
