They were headed in the right direction, then they lost Norv Turner. They needed continuity, and they're starting over again this year with new coordinators on offense and defense, and neither Greg Manusky (DC) nor Jim Hostler (OC) has ever been an NFL coordinator.

Gore was fantastic last year, and will probably be a 1000-yarder again this year, but I'd expect his numbers to drop without Turner at the reins. Emmitt Smith, Terry Allen, Lamont Jordan, Stephen Davis, and several other running backs have all had their best seasons under Turner.

This year they're raiding the free agent market, and recent history shows that's not the path to success. The Redskins, Browns, and Bucs were among the most active teams in free agency last year, and where are they drafting? 3rd, 4th, and 6th.

This really isn't an answer to "why do the niners suck?", because I don't believe that they sucked last year. But for the above reasons, I believe the niners will suck this year, and other NFC teams will improve, pushing San Francisco back towards the bottom of the conference.

Well when free agency both came into existance the 49ers didn't quite get how the concept worked so they pretty much paid for their Super Bowl win over the Chargers over the rest of the decade. They still didn't financially recover from those blunders until the past couple of seasons as they have started fresh. That is why in the late 90s and early 2000s they made all sorts of deals that obviously were not geared towards winning.

Alex Smith, Gore, and company are turning things around. If they can overcome losing yet another offensive coordinator than they will be a playoff contender next year which means... they don't suck

It fairly would desire to suck so you could be a Cowboy fan with 2 49er fan roommates! Any 49er fan who watched them interior the eighty's and ninety's HAS to hate the 'Boys from each and all of the cases Troy Aikman and Emmit Smith knocked the 49ers out of the playoffs and Dallas will continuously would desire to stay with "The seize" which all started an era of the 49ers knocking the Coboys out. it fairly is a protracted time contention so which you will basically would desire to stay with it or get new roommates! As for why they suck, each and all of the super communities with the super stars interior the ninety's have been given hit fairly undesirable while the NFL applied the income Cap after the ninety 4 season. the two the 49ers and Cowboys ultimately eroded and went via numerous years of absolute suckdom because of the fact devoid of having the ability to purely sign high priced gamers, companies now had to place self belief in the draft to construct up their communities (which then sucky communities like the Colts and Pats had already been doing because of the fact no one wanted to play there). The 49ers have been double-whammied because of the fact in addition they misplaced Eddie De Bartolo as proprietor and the Yorks, who took over, be responsive to not something approximately working a soccer group. the project is regardless of the indisputable fact that that 49er followers have long standard that they suck and that the honor days of Joe Montana and Jerry Rice will possibly under no circumstances be had back. The Cowboys, on the different hand, tend to be so hyped that followers of alternative communities can not help yet cheer while the Cowboys get beat.

I would have to say that the downfall of the Niners can be traced back to the transfer of ownership from Eddie DeBartolo to the Yorks. They're pretty much tearing apart that team! And the messed up thing is that they could've handed it back to Eddie after he had served his suspension, but they faught him on it forcing Eddie to step down as the owner! Man, I miss the Eddie DeBartolo era! That's when things were great, we had awesome players who plyed their asses off for that organization... I know there are still a couple of guys on that team now who are like that, ie. Bryant Young, Gore, Walt Harris, but that's the problem, it's not the whole team!

I was wondering why they were the first team to get 5 Super Bowl wins, and be the only team that is 5-0 in the big game. Had a couple bad seasons, but it is turning around, I just think some people are getting scared about another 49er Super Bowl coming up.

They don't... they are a young inexperienced team and quickly rising in the NFL Ranks. The 06 9ers team was no longer a push over as they had become in the previous 2-3 years and they will continue to improve...

07 prediction = 49ers NFC West Champions!

Cyclical for most teams. You win long enough and other teams start buying your players away in Free Agency, thinking they will bring success with them.
Also finishing well means you get poorer draft picks and normally MOST teams with top ten picks get good talent. Somewhere between 10 and 15 there is a drop off in talent

Are you planning on asking this same question about 31 of the 32 teams in the NFL? You already asked it about the Redskins.
