Quite often the rest of the question is properly spelt and punctuated so why do these two words cause problems?

Yeah and wot about does and dose while were at it !! I think it's cos they show up on spell check as OK.

Because they two sounds very similar many -

(1)those who left school long time ago and not involved in a situation where grammar is very important ,and
(2) a lot of professionals in a science subjects -

are quite often happy when the listener understands what they are talking. Grammar is not seen with much important in sciences as in literature.

I do that sometimes. But I spell a lot of things wrong on occassion LOL

I dont know, but it is enought to make me lose my mind when I consider how loose people are with their language skills.

I find it annoying. One could also ask why they don't know the difference between 'your' and 'you're', 'there' and 'their', 'fewer' and 'less', 'who' and 'whom', 'practice' and 'practise' and 'eggplant' and 'aubergine'.
