My boyfriend and I just separated after 4 years. It was my decision. I had an affair after a year of being miserable in my relationship. We tried to work it out, but he did not trust me (with good reason as I did contact the "other man" again after the affair though it was for a benign reason). He threated to leave me several times and I finally got tired of it and asked him to move out. We haven't dissolved the realationship yet, but I would like to know if anyone has ever been separated before and was it successful in helping to resolve relationship issues. Thank You in advance.

You can't work out a relationship if you don't want to be in it. If you're miserable, you should break up with him. Move on.

If you separate you have no relationship, and the issues all seem to be yours.
