If you are brought up to only think of yourself or to put yourself first you will not be a "giving" type. On the other hand if your values included giving back to the community, helping those in need, or the basics of manners (allow your guest to choose the toy, company first) you are more likely to have a philanthropy spirit, the spirit of giving.

It helps you to understand that family isn't all about YOU. It's about other people. It feels better to take care of someone and someone to take care of you than simply shutting yourself away in your own little corner.
