Cotton pickin' is an adjective.
Cotton-picking "is widespread as a term of disparagement. Damned, darned."
Also acceptable is "now just a darn tootin' minute".

how long it takes that person to tell you EXACTLY what is on his mind .because when someone says that .they always say WAIT A Cotton pickin minute .they're about to tell you ALL about it.no one ever says cotton pickin without saying "WAIT A" before saying it
a cotton picking minute is a LONG minute
I know this for a fact because i told this feller the other day to wait a cotton pickin minute and i told him what was on my mind and it actually took about ten Northern minutes to tell him ALL about it

Because it's harder to pick cotton, a little longer than a "pea pickin" minute.

If you are doing the cotton pickin', it seems to last forever. Normally though it is momentary at best.

a cotton pickin' minute is not a measurement of time but of indignance.
Just like a parsec is not a measurement of time either but of distance.

The "cotton-picking" portion is usually a substitute for an expletive. The most commonly-used expletive in that situation is "damn". Assuming damnation is eternal, then I'd say a "cotton-picking minute" is a very long time.
