Read "Grendel" by John Gardner. It's the telling of the Beowulf story, except from the perspective of the "monster" who's actually a highly-intelligent but misunderstood creature...like me. :(

Seriously, though, it's beautifully written, and I usually don't read fiction. It has won all kinds of awards - see link below.

Well, there are other books then clique and gossip girls in the teen section. I'm reading a really good trilogy right now called the books of pellinor. They're nice and long and well written, along the lines of JRR Tolkien if you're interested in that...why don't you just go to the book store and look around instead of wasting your time here?

I'm like some of you who read too much. Try reading something that you normally wouldn't read. I don't know what you are into. Try Caverns of Socrates by Dennis L McKiernan. It is about a team of VR gamers who are chosen to test new AI technology. The AI starts breaking rules and the team gets trapped and all kinds of things start happening. This is a sad synopsis but I swear it his a pretty good. I wasn't into fantasy before so maybe just choose something that has nothing to do with your current genre. I get that alot of people stick to there genre and that's it. But it can start feeling a little stagnant when you read so much that all the books start sounding the same. The good thing about fantasy is that it is hard to find a book that is like another. One little twist can change everything.

The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fford (A lot of fun!! - popping between books and the real-world, though the real-world is really an alternate reality from ours where fiction is extremely important.)

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
(Historical - China in the 1850s or so, and how society was for women.)

Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks (Historical - During an epidemic of the plague in England.)

Are you a fantasy/ sci-fi type person?
Try The Snow Queen by Joan D. Vinge
I assume that you already tried The hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams and if you liked those(its a series by the way) you could try Terry Pratchett. He writes satirical fantasy. You could also try The Legend of Nightfall, I don't remember the author. or The sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. The first book, Wizard's First rule is very good.

If you like historical stuff try They Poured Fire on us from the Sky- it's written by three authors and is about the Lost Boys of Sudan...it's an actual account and really good. To find it, one of the authors is Benson Deng, I'm sure if you searched you could find it.

Don't feel bad. I read so much that sometimes I have a hard time finding something good. I have read more books than I know people. I would suggest:

1) anything by Diana Gabaldon, she writes historical romance and if I were you I would start with the Outlander series. there are 5 or 6 books in the series and they are really good and they are long
2) anything by Greg Iles, he is really good and writes murder mystery books, I read one of his books and went out and bought all I could find by him
3)anything by Lisa Jackson, also writes murder mystery books
4) anything by Lisa Gardner, I am reading her books right now and she will keep you guessing until the end of the books
5) books by the author of A Wrinkle in Time
6) books by Judith Michael
7) anything by Lisa Scottoline, she writes lawyer books and is like the female equevelency of John Grisham
8) books by Karen Slaughter, FAITHLESS is the name of one book and I absolutley loved it, if you like gruesom books that would make you sick if you have a weak stomach read this. It is great.

I could continue giving you author names for hours. So if you would like a list of books I think you would enjoy that I have read contact me at linaebaxter@yahoo.com because I know what it's like to love to read and not know what to read. I read atleast one book a day and I don't know what to do if I couldn't read.

well, i prefer books that have to do with people our age, but i like different settings and all that good stuff
JACOB HAVE I LOVED is about a girl who tries to get out of the shadow of her twin, it's about WWII years and on a small island
TO SPOIL THE SUN is about a cherokee girl who lives when small pox comes around
WITCH CHILD is a great story about a girl in colonial times she's a witch, but must hide it
SORCERESS (sp?) is witch child's sequel, i haven't finished it, but it's good so far. since you haven't read witch child, i assume, i can't tell you what this is about
THE WATCHER is about a girl who doesn't come from earth, but doesn't know about it i loved this book too
KISSING THE RAIN i never got to finish this book, but i loved the part i read. it's about a guy, yes finally a guy's point of view, who witnessed a murder
NAME ME NOBODY is about a girl who lives in hawaii who has self image issues and has a lesbian as a best friend its an interesting and daring twist, but it rocks
WISE CHILD is about a girl who has to live with the witch of the village even though the whole village is christian, well i think that's the religion, and she finds herself
CHINA RUN i didn't finish this one either because i had to pay a fine, but its not about a teen, it's about a woman trying to adopt a chinese baby, but they try to take it away and she runs so she can keep her baby
i loved all of these books they're captivating and i've actually written stories based on some of them they're that cool
