I would say that you aren't going to get the best quality brushes from wal-mart or shoppers drug mart. But whatever they have probably will be fine for what ever you are doing. Try and get a kit that has all of the brushes you need.

Skip Wal-Mart or Shoppers Drug Mart. Find a Mary Kay consultant in your area by going to and purchase the MK Signature Brush Set from them. It's retail price is $45. They are awesome!

Target makes a great line of their own brushes, but there is also Sonia Kashuk brushes that are fairly decent quality for a lot less money compared to higher end brushes.
I personally love MAC Cosmetics face brushes, and Philosophy makes great eye brushes. You can also check out brush sets put out by Too Faced, Sugar, Sephora, etc.
You can find MAC Cosmetics at http://www.maccosmetics.com
You can find most other high end brands at http://sephora.com
