This is an issue to be carefully consulted with both your OB and your Orthopedic Drs. They must speak with each other to consider what is best for you and the baby. You said in a few weeks which tells me it is somewhat elective, at least time wise. You should wait, even if at some point you have to be on bed rest, Chances for vaginal delivery sound unwise to me. I'm saying these things because I worked 15 years as a L&D Nurse. Technology has greatly improved re: back surgery, but it remains tricky with many potencial unwanted results.

I was 12 weeks when I had major surgery. I had a cyst on my fallopian tube, and the preg. hormones made it grow uncontrollably. It was suggested that I terminate the preg, but that was out of the question for me. I was under general anesthesia for 4 hours and there were complications and I woke up with 18 staples going from my belly button to below the pubic bone. I have a beautiful little boy now who is almost 3. And a really ugly scar that stretched as he grew. LOL so worth it though!

My suggestion - get lots of rest after surgery. Your body is going to be extremely stressed trying to heal, and supporting the baby. No one is expecting you to be a super hero and get up and do things, and it will make things worse in the long run. I'm assuming that you have talk to your OBGYN/ Midwife about this - do everything they say. If you doctors feel that it is a safe procedure then you will be fine as long as you follow their orders.

Best of luck, and you're in my prayers!

How far along are you? I'm assuming your surgeon knows about it and wouldn't put you in a difficult situation such as this one. You should clarify with the physician on how long your healing period is expected to be. It also depends on how well you take care of yourself too! Don't worry too much about it-what is meant to happen-will. Good luck and congrats! Hope your surgery goes well!

Ask your doctor before you have the surgery if it will affect the delivery process in anyway. And ask how long the healing time usually is.

I honestly think you'll need to ask your doctor about this one. No one on here knows all your history and the exact nature/reason for your surgery. Best of luck to you.
