I think Woodstock by Joni Mitchell is great. Here are some of my favorite phrases from the song that I think capture what was going on.
Im going to try an get my soul free
By the time we got to woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere there was song and celebration
We are stardust
Billion year old carbon
We are golden
Caught in the devils bargain
And weve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden
Another song is "For what its worth" by Buffalo Springfield
There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
It just blows me away to understand what they were trying to accomplish. I think we need the same spirit today. Only better!

I would say:
For What It's Worth - Buffalo Springfield
The Times They Are A Changin' - Bob Dylan - try to get hold of James Taylor and Carly Simon's cover of this terrific song as perfomed at the No Nukes Concert of 1979. It'll blow you away!
They both, in different ways, refer to the young people's new outlook and attitude towards the world, their times as opposed to their parent's times, and their expectations. I think these songs both really sum it up! Great songs, both!

Dion's- "Abraham, Martin and John"
EDIT
& no one should list "American Pie". You asked for a *60s* song & 'Pie" was put out in 1972. :)
