It is distasteful, a reminder of the Democrat KKK and their intolerance, but then, so is Senator Grand Kleagle Robert Byrd, but it is a part of free speech, just like flag burning.

And like flag-burning, it is also an action for those people who are shallow and unintelligent, and who haven't the capacity to articulate a cogent thought.

It's not.
In Scotland the "fiery cross", known as the Crann Tara was used as a declaration of war, which required all clan members to rally to the defence of the area. It is important to note that in Scotland it has absolutely no racist connotations. The practice is described in the novels and poetry of Sir Walter Scott. A small burning cross or charred piece of wood would be carried from town to town. The most recent known use there was in 1745, during the Jacobite Rising[1], the best part of a century before the foundation of the KKK.

First, that's not unlawful to burn the yankee flag. (truly, the coolest Flag Code recommends it because the finest way of removing a wiped out flag.) So burning a flag on your the front backyard brings up the point of motive - and regulations and courts exceedingly a lot say human beings won't be able to be prosecuted for his or her perceived motive, because minds won't be able to be study. frequently comes below First change, secure freedom of speech, expression. i do not imagine you may be convicted for burning a bypass on your human being land . . . except, those days, there is the recent type of 'hate crimes'. yet i imagine they frequently follow to attacks adverse to human beings. once back, as loose expression, you may nicely be clean. that's now to not say some may arrest you for some thing, and also you should bypass via the courts, as a first change case. yet - there may honestly be an ordinance adverse to burning *some thing* on your the front backyard. relies upon on the city you're in. and also you received't in undemanding words be pissing off Christians. Burning a huge bypass replaced right into a nicely undemanding trademark of the Ku Klux Klan. no longer a sturdy issue to be misinterpreted on.

No offense to me.
It's negative connotations are bad (ie racism) but as some one else pointed out it's historic meaning has no negative associations.

It's a piece of wood - nothing more. Now mind you that large of an open burn in a drought would require some restrictions.

It should be illegal if, for no reason, it's hazardous. A large open flame like this can cause some serious damage.

I find it offensive because it's common "meaning" is to intimidate a racial minority (typically African Americans, but it's also been used for Jews, Asians, and others) or other minority (homosexuals, mostly).

While I'm for free speech, I am not for open burning or for intimidation. Therefore, I say it should be illegal.

If you want to express your hatred of a race or other group, feel free to say so. But don't do via this sort of intimidation.

I personally don't find it offensive because I could not care less about religion.

Those who do follow a particular faith usually are offended.

The action itself should not be illegal, but if it's done on someone's lawn or at a church, then it deserves punishment.

It is an offensive symbol of the subjugation of an entire race.

On the other hand, I believe it is protected speech and it would be offensive to disallow it.

It shows a total lack of tolerance and respect for the views of others. That's called bigotry.
