I wear a dive skin under my wetsuit, if I need the wetsuit.
The wetsuit will come off easier if you are wearing a dive skin.
Usually the water I dive in is warm enough that I only need a dive skin. The dive skin adds a lot to your warmth believe it or not. Under the dive skin I insist on speedo type swim trunks. The speedo trunks offer the best streamlining which
helps you move through the water.

I usually wear a racing style swimsuit (Speedo type) underneath my wetsuit. I like this better than swim trunks since it doesn't bunch up.
Nothing is also a good option, but then it is more difficult to change out of your wetsuit at the beach without drawing lots of attention.

The more you wear the more Resistance you create and the heavier you are to move through the water.
Wearing nothing can cause chaffing. A pair of budgie smugglers (speedos) are the go.

a tight, non-cotton bathing suit. you want it to be nearly skin tight and flexible so that it won't bunch up inside your suit or give you a rash.
