When I was 5 days old I was adopted. I want to find my birth family. I've contacted the adoption agency but they never contacted me back. What can I do? PS- I was adopted 19 yrs. ago.

Give them some time, but you could check back with them after a couple of weeks.

Understand that your birth mother might not be that easy to find now, they may not have located her. Or they may have located her and she hasn't responded. She might not have responded because she's scared of a lot of things, such as having to justify her decision to you, or explaining who you are to her family now.

Realize that 19 years ago, she thought she'd never see you again. It may take time to adjust to the idea of communicating with you. Even being told you're looking may have totally altered her paradigm of the world, because she has had to hope that you were being raised to be a perfect person in a perfect home, and she may worry that she expects too much of you, or that you might have pre-judged her or her decision.

You've decided you want to make contact, which is your right, but realize that's a two-way street. You have to give her time to decide that she does, too.

I hope it all works out.

A lot of people use the International Soundex Reunion Registry:

and there's an adoptee-rights group called Bastard Nation the might have some strategies:

--just two of the many resources available on the internet.

And keep after the adotion agency. They're often overworked and underpaid and can be notoriously slow about things.

I read an article in the News and Observer, a Raleigh, NC based newspaper a few weeks ago about people who are called Angels. The article featured a lady who looked for family members for adopted people for free. SHe said that many people do it for free and they are called ANGELS or something to that effect. Worth researching, good luck. Heres the newspaper link. www.newsandobserver.com. Wish you well!

not to burst your bubble, but I'm sure if they wanted to find you, they would. yeah, i wouldn't want to find someone that got rid of me. maybe to key their car, but that's it.
