Note: Please reframe from making fun of me. I'm only 16, I've never had a job, & I'm kind of dumb I guess.

Alright, so I need to know (literally) HOW I apply for a part-time job. Like, the exact process. Do I just walk into the place I want to work at & ask for a job application? If so, do I fill it out in the store, or do I take it home & mail it to them? If I fill it out there, do I need my resume with me when I walk in? If I mail it, do I mail the resume with it? I'm too embarrassed to ask anyone I personally know because it seems like I'm the only one who doesn't already know these things. Any answers to the previous questions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Get your resume done. Dress nicely and go to the places that you would like to work at. Talk to a manager and ask them if they are hiring. if so ask if you need to fill out an application or do they just need a resume. if you need to fill out an application fill it in elsewhere and come back and hand it in. hope that helps.

Yes, you just walk right into the place of choice. Go up to the front desk and say, I would like a job application. If they ask you what position you are applying for, just tell them. Sometimes they have different applications for different jobs. They will hand you the app. Can ask if you can take it with you and bring back later. Most places will let you do this, but not all. Take home and fill out if you want. Can take back the next day OR can have a seat at the place and fill out the job app. and then just hand it back. They will take it from there. If you do have a resume can hand that to them. If you decide to take the application home or to the car to fill out, just take it back in person. Don't mail it. Keep a list of dates, previous work places etc.. That way you can copy it for all the job applications you fill out. Hope this was helpful. Good Luck.

It really depends on the type of job you are seeking. I would guess at 16 your probably talking fast food or a convenience store. Yes, you just walk in and ask for an application. If there is room fill it out and ask to talk with the manager. If there is not room, take it home fill it out and take it back, do not mail it. If you have a resume, then turn it in with the app., although with the type of jobs I'm talking about, you don't need a resume. If the manager is not in, wait a day or two and call the manager tell them you put in an app and were wondering if you could come in for an interview.
Good Luck.

First of all, don't feel embarassed. We have all been new to the job search at one time or another.

You can always research the place you would like to work online first to see what their application policies are. Many retailers have an online application that you can fill out on their website. You can also upload or cut and paste your resume if you wish.

If the place you are wanting to work is in a mall, I would ask for the application and fill it out at the food court or another location. Take it back to them when you are finished. You can attach the resume to it at that time.

Remember...always dress professional even if the job you are going for does not require professional dress.

Good Luck!

It's your first time applying for a job there's nothing to be embarassed about but here's what I would do. I would go to the place you're interested in working and I'd take your resume (if you even have one at 16) with you just in case. I'd ask the person at the front desk who you should speak with about any openings for a part-time position and then I'd ask whoever your told to speak with if they have any available part-time positions and if so ask what the qualifications are (i.e- age, work permit etc.) and then if you meet those minimum requirements I'd ask for an application. If they give you instructions on when to fill it out and who to ask for when you bring it back great but if they don't just take it home fill it out neatly, honestly and attach a copy of your resume and work permit to it (I'd use a paper clip I wouldn't staple it) then go back to the place and if they didn't give you instructions on who to turn the application into I'd ask the person at the front desk who you should return this application to if they say just leave it with me and I'll make sure they get it I would ask them for their name and the number to the place so that you can call in a couple days and ask if they've received your application and find out what the status is from there. They will usually schedule an interview when you turn your application in or they'll call you and schedule one and from there you should be fine. Just look nice, speak well, fill everything out neatly and you should be good to go, good luck!

Ok I would recommend the following:
1. Pick up the Resume ( get 2) (in case you make a mistake)
2. Ask the name of the manager that you should return this to and when it would be a good time to reach that person. Restaurants usually between 2:00 to 4:00 Most business that you will be applying for will usually meet between those hours.
3. Take the Application home and fill out COMPLETLY & NEATLY.
4. On the day you would like to take the resume back call ahead and see if that Manager is in. Be sure to dress for success when going to drop this off. When dropping off 1 of 3 things can happen 1. The manager will be to busy to meet with you. Leave the application with a copy of your resume. 2. He/She may come out to take the application and resume from you. This will be your chance for a huge impression. Shake the persons hand firmly and introduce yourself, let them know that you are interested in working for their company and would like to set up an interview time that would be good for him/her. 3. The manager may have time to meet with you right then, be PREPARED Shake the persons hand introduce yourself, sit straight up always keeping eye contact. Try not to be nervous, and answer his or her questions completly and honestly.
5. If you dont get to see a manager you should call 2 days later to inquire about your application, continue to call till you speak with a manager and find out if they want to bring you in for an interview.

NEVER MAIL AN APPLICATION Hand delivery is the best!
Take time to know a little bit about the company, they will ask why you chose their company to go to work for.

GOOD LUCK!

even if you haven't had a job yet you can make a resume with your skills from school clubs you may have been in. Dress nice even if it's the mall or fast food joint. You don't have a second chance to make a first impression. If you are going to fill it out there which is better then make sure you have a copy of your drivers license. And know you social security # in case they need it on the app.

Some places have a short application& you can do it there. Some are longer. I would ask them when you pick it up,which they prefer. sometimes you need info, that you may not have with you at the time. Good Luck!!
