They live in a vent over my garage and make a quite a mess on my vehicles (droppings, nesting material, dead baby birds, etc.). Before it's suggested, air rifles are not an option. I live in the city and it's against the law.

We had the same problem, but it was our bathroom fan vent that they were in. First, I "smoked them out" by lighting a citronella candle and holding it near the fan (with a bucket of water nearby) and turning on the fan. Once we were sure they were gone, we cleaned out the vent (with bleach) and put on a vent cover (you can get these at Home Depot, Menards, Lowe's, any home improvement or hardware store).

go to Lowes or a farm supply store and buy a plastic owl. Hang it close to the vent and the sparrows will stay away.
