refers to breaking the hymen, which is a thin membrane that narrows the opening of the vagina. Basically its an ignorant sounding bit of slang ("popping the cherry") that means taking a girls viginity.

When someone "pops a cherry" is means that person took someones virginity. If someone had their "cherry popped", it means they lost their virginity. Also the "cherry" is a layer of skin that is to come off during sex when the girl is a virgin. That piece of skin is called a hymen. Girls have this little flap of skin inside their vaginas called the hymen. when you have sex for the first time, if its not already torn from using tampons, then that skin is torn and the girl bleeds afterwards, sometimes a small amount for a short period of time and sometimes a large amount for a long period of time. that skin is there to protect your vagina and there is a small enough opening for blood to get through when you have your period but when you have sex a guys penis is (usually) larger than that blood so it has to stretch and is torn. thats what it means when someone says something like they popped someones cherry.

It means that the woman's hymen has been broken. (people used to consider the fact that the hymen was still intact meant that the woman was still a virgin--but now a days with women being as active as we are, usually the hymen gets broken wayyyy before she has ever had sexual intercourse!)

To take someone's virginity. usually used in reference to breaking the hymen surrounding a virgin female's vagina, but also used in reference to gay sex and the first penetration of the anus. Term usually not used for female anal sex.
