Get a t-stat with a remote, then they need your password. They're $50 to $250 at most home improvement centers. I put one in my office, too many menopausal fingers on the dial! RScott (sorry "girls")

Place an incandescent lamp near the thermostat. The heat from the lamp will keep the thermostat shut off earlier and your guests will think it's warm enough.

That's just plain rude. You can try to explain about conserving energy and saving money and offer them a robe or throw to warm up, or just F 'em and put a lock box on it. I had a house guest once who changed the message on my answering machine and didn't understand why I was peeved! Some people just don't get it. You know what they say: "House guests are like fish - after three days, they stink!"

either you turn it back down and offer your houseguest a sweater, or you suck it up for the duration of your guest's visit... it's rather rude of a guest to make a financial decision like that for you, but good hospitality is centered on keeping the guests comfortable...

Turn the breaker off to the furnace or heatpump. Has my wife been staying at your house?
