Hi
It would really help if you could give us a bit more information, such as colour of smoke, fuel type, turbo, mileage, etc
My guess would be you have a turbo diesel and the smoke is black or blue turbo smoke, but the requested info would be a great help.
Cheers
Geordie

hi ,it sounds to me such as you're starting to be to be have been given water on your diesel..Blue smoke potential its burning oil, black smoke potential your injectors choose staring at and white smoke in a diesel generaly potential water in the Diesel,,verify the diesel filter out to be certain if there is any water in there, replace it if choose be and probably get the tank checked to..The white smoke will sparkling after a quick time of employing yet what you might even see is each now after which you will get a burst of white smoke at the same time as employing and many it once you first initiate if there is a good number of water..wish this facilitates..Regards Steve

Spilled oil in the gears can cause this smoke. Check for any leaks in the oil line.

if its a turbo i would guess that the seals in the turbo are passing oil, under load and overrun conditions.
