The technical answer is- when she is not ovulating. The reason for this answer is, if she is not ovulating- there is no egg to fertilize.

Now now now for the tricky part. When is she ovulating? It's different for every woman. Typically women have a 28-31 day cycle and usually ovulate 9-12 days into her cycle.

Unfortunately... every woman is different so this answer will be different for everyone.

www.fertilityfriend.com is a good site to refer to regarding ovulatioin.
Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a great book to read through to better understand ovulation and fertility as well.

*GOOD LUCK HON*

It is NEVER safe to have unprotected sex on any day of your cycle. In other words, there is not one single day of your cycle where you could be certain not to get pregnant if you have unprotected sex.

Generally, you are most fertile 14 days before your next period is due (assuming you have a 28-day cycle that is regular like clockwork).

Also in general, you are least fertile on day "one" of your menstrual cycle (the first day you start to bleed). But I have known women who have gotten pregnant while they were bleeding, so this is not a sure thing.

If you don't want to be a mother right now, then get on the pill, the patch, the ring, condoms with spermicide, the Mirena IUD, or some other method of prevention. Use it exactly as directed.

hardest time is during her actual period... but like the other people answering say, the only way to absolutely not get pregnant is to not have sex...

no time, because ANY time you have sex, condom or not, period or not, birth control or not, you can get pregnant. the only way to 100% not to get pregnant is not to have sex.
