Hey Ghandi - my mother worked three jobs at one point to make sure my brother and I were taken care of.

Maybe if we were more willing to try take care of our family friends and neighbors and shore our blessings we wouldn't have so many screaming for more government. I like helping people out with their expenses.

If you feel that anyone who's poor is inherently a lazy and/or stupid person looking for handouts, you're obviously a pampered princess (I could phrase it differently but will refrain for the sake of etiquette) who doesn't have a clue about the economic realities of the working poor. How is someone making minimum wage or just above that supposed to make ends meet? You've clearly never been confronted with that dilemma or you wouldn't speak in the smug and condescending tone that you do.

I come up with that myself I use a group policy which takes out around $17 dollars a week and another $6 for dental. Now to have to come up with $11 a month to pay for someone who isn't working when I pay for social security which covers those who can't work or are retired makes it too much. If health care ends up taking too much of my money I am just going to quit working and say I am a drunk and live off social security and medicare.

I am a democrat, but am with you on the whole "nationalized health care" thing. I think that we are going to have enough trouble trying to keep Medicare and Medicaid solvent. There is no way we will be able to afford nationalized health care. It's not that I think the idea is bad, just don't think it is economically feasible. The first person has it wrong. Medicaid is for the poor.Medicare is for the elderly.

spoken like a true, compassionate, caring Christian American.

every been poor, slappy?

I mean, really poor - not just being broke and not having beer money. I mean grinding poverty, where a penny is comparable to having a million dollars? my guess is you are a comfortable middle class white American who wouldn't know poverty it if walked up and kicked you where Barbara Bush has the only pair of balls in the entire GOP.

The problem with you fake Republicans is that everything that looks good on paper or sounds good from the speakers of your right wing hate radio mouthpiece MUST be true.

If you haven't had anything to eat in four days or your baby is malnourished, $11 sure as **** ain't going to health care, but, you don't really care so why ask the question in the first place???

Not everyone is eligible for medicare.

The "group plan" I have costs nearly $1,000 per month for family coverage. How many people can afford $12,000 per year for family coverage. Not to mention that there is a $1500 deductible per person.

Health care costs are out of control. Something has to be done.

But isn't that welfare? I thought you didn't believe in giving handouts to the needy.

Edit: That's what Medicare is, sweetie. Government-funded healthcare for the poor. If you're thinking old people, that's Medicaid.

yes. strange number. not sure i quite understand your question. medicare pays little really. even with insurance and medicare towards the end,my mothers medical bills were over $600 a month(out of pocket),on top of her other bills.

tellme, you have it backwards. medicaid is welfare.

Maybe they could cut back and smoke 3 fewer packs of Marlboros per month and they'd have the extra $11.
