we live in the chicago area ,,and my son has schizoafective disorder, however he is doing o.k with meds.

he wants an apartment, and I was wondering if there is some type of monetary assistance ,in the chicago area ??

what housing division should we be talking to , he gets ssi, , however that is not enough to get an apartment, and section 8 is not open for applications at this time.

additionally is there an agency that will qualify him for assistance if he remained home with me.

Another program you could look into is Section 42-Tax Credit. Also try looking in the area for Section 8 PROPERTY based housing. There are two kinds of Sec. 8. Property is just that, an apartment complex that, if you qualify income wise and he would, you automatically get Sect. 8 while you are there. Instead of looking at programs, start looking for low income based housing. We have many many properties in my area so there should be something around you. The properties that are section 8 prob have a waiting list but at least those will probably be open. Good luck.
