Im a freshman. I played inside linebacker this year and was a starter on our team. But, I want to achieve a scholarship for college.I just need some suggestions on what to stick with. My coach said I should stick with it because he has been giving me 1 on 1 training because he used to play it.Oh yeah im 5'6 and 173. My 40 time is 4.72 and im probably the strongest on the team. So any suggestions? On offense I play fullback should I try something else too.

Thamnk you so much for answering

If you are looking to maximize your potential to get a college scholarship, you, I think from the limited info I have, to decide how much taller to think you will get. You are good size for a frsh/soph but inside LB may be a good fit for you if you do not think you will get much taller. If, on the other hand, your family is tall and you think you have significant room to grow, you might consider outside backer. You're fast and you'll have more opportunities to get sacks/numbers at that position. If you are that fast, you'll also get a little more opportunity to drop into coverage, if you think that you can play pass def. At inside backer, you'll likely only play a little zone, if even that.

Also, here is an imp't point, if you are a SMART player, which your coach may think you are, you can emerge as the play caller for your defense. This person is often/almost always the middle backer (think Sam Mills, Erlacher, etc.) As you get older and learn the nuainces of defense, you may be asked to read the offense and call defensive schemes before the snap. If you work hard, this kind of leadership and knowledge can get you a scholarship and maybe lead you to go into coaching.

Another consideration is your team's scheme. At my high school, the whole defensive scheme was designed for the 2 inside backers to make LOTS of plays. Those guys had gaudy numbers due to the whole defense taking up blockers to free the inside backers. Other schemes focus on freeing up the outside backers or DE's to get sacks. Think about your coach's defensive philosophy before you insist on a position switch.

Good luck.

Well, I know what position you are in, I am 5 foot 9 160 pounds and play some outside linebacker/strongside safety and tailback on offense.... I want to know what position to stick wit, it sounds like you should play one of the linebacker spots or defensive end, maybe even strong safety... I am smaller than you, weight wise, slower and weaker so there is not much chance that we'll see each other at the next level, but I was a back up QB and I might try to start at QB next season instead of tailback, I love playin QB... ANYWAYS man, do whatever you know in your heart that you can do, do what you think you'll like the best, do what you wanna do because in the end it dont matter what we say, it matters what you do... Good Luck man, for real... I hope maybe someday you'll be a big d-1 football player... I hope someday I'll even be considered by the crappiest D-3 school in america, LOL...

As a coach myself I agree 100% with Slik Dude and Frisco. Stick with what your coach have been instructed you at. Adding long snapping to your skill set adds one more star next to your name. I made my college's travel team my freshman year for one reason, I could long snap. From that exposure I worked my way up to second string on offense and started one game by the end of the year.

If you have a good coach he'll have you in the best position possible for both your sake and his own. Don't be afraid to re-evaluate at the very start of next season though. Sometimes high school players get "too" focused on one position in a time when their bodies are changing year to year. One year you could be a linebacker, next year you might be more fit to be a strong safety or a nose tackle, until the season starts, don't be afraid to experiment. (Assuming you can handle the added responsibilities.)

try to play dline. nowadays with you age group theres isnt any good d-line. your strength can be great and you kinda fast for your age and with more workouts and running you can improve your 40. play the end of the d line you can fit great. just improve you 40 you can be like juluis peppers, that can get you a scholarships. on offense, dont try fullback unless you wanna block alot and its harder to get a scholarship unless you can player like that fullback from chargers(in his whole career whatever rb he has behing they all had 1000 yrd season). with your weight, strength, and speed you can play TE.
