This kills me - did the judge say "we need to monitor the educational welfare of our children?" Since when did the public school district start caring about the educational welfare of children? It seems to me, as a parent, that the school is too busy dealing with the discipline problems they are encountering from the "feel good' generation of parents that do not believe that kids need structure. I can recollect all the times the school district has chosen the emotional wants of children over their educational needs. Has anyone ever heard that doing the right things leads to good feelings?

It sucks that people have to be this way. I personally favor public/private schooling to home schooling, I feel they get all the education plus the skills of socializing they will need in their adult lives, but the mother has a choice as to how she will school her children without the US government interfering.

If you're in the U.S., no, but January 20, 2009 isn't far off.

If you're in Britain, yes, but there will always be men (and, in one very notable case, women) who will want to institute a Norsefire government (as in "V for Vendetta" for those who don't get the reference).

If you're in Canada, I think so, but watch it, Mr. Harper. And don't get too comfortable in 24 Sussex.

I read the article. It has nothing to do with taking away freedomss. It concerns one parents rights vs. another parents rights in choosing proper schooling for their kids.
