Our government is not starting wars for conquest, you idiot.
We'd own the Middle East by now if that was the case.
We also don't make midnight deals with dictators and druglords- At least, we don't make significant ones because anything that would pose a threat to our democratic system would get crushed pretty quick. Our government is not above corruption on every side of the die.
The American people have always been squabbling over ideas. That is the purpose of our democratic governement and our party system. If we all agreed, then Geroge Washington would have made up a completely different kind of system all those years ago when we won the war and have since become one of the greatest world powers in the world.
The only problem with our government is that it's run by people who are progeressively getting stupider.
That isn't old man Washington's fault. It's because our educational system can't train quadruple major Politicians/Historians/Writers/Businessmen in 2-5 years.
Frankly, I don't know what the solution is, but I'm damn sure that if we actually DID conquer some country and then make an extension of our nation over there, we might be able to make some extra income and filter our population around throughout the world to make a more peaceful environment for everybody as a whole.
On the other hand, over-expansion is how Great Britain's dreams of world domination were shattered.
Our government's biggest concern right now is figuring out how to kill, capture, and transform the people of the middle east in a way that we will be able to impose our much better (and it is much better) culture onto them and make them happier instead of bitter and rebellious.
The problem now, of course, and this was an existing problem long before the events which prompted your tiny uneducated mind to spawn this question, is that there are people who want to blow themselves up on our territory because they're jealous of how cool we are.
If we quit acting as we do now, our country will surely fall in a matter of decades. But, at the current rate, I don't see why we wouldn't last for the next 12 centuries. But I can't logically predict anything after that because of lack of information about the future of technology, ducation, culture, and, of course, how well/not so well other cultures develop.

We are no longer free. There are cameras on every corner in downtown area of most major cities. Free Speech, a thing of the past. Your free to speak only if you don't offend anyone. I''m afraid life as we know it is about to change drastically.

It won't last much longer. If it acts, looks, and walks like a Police State, then it's a Police State.
Like the politicos say, "The "freedom experiment" may be over." It's over.

I certainly do. You hit on a lot of negatives, some of which you have embellished, but why not think about the positives? Just for starters - a democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, a capitalistic economy......... The list is endless. For me the good far outweighs the bad.

As long as we have the balls to stand up to the world as only the Conservative leaders seem to be willing to do.
