The big 4 1000cc sport bikes are all very close. The differences between them are in a range that the vast majority of riders will never reach.

There's plenty of bikes that will accommodate a guy of your size and still be a bit smaller than 1055 of the Tiger or the 1000 of the V-Strom. Both are great bikes, by the way :) One that you may consider looking at, since you're a beginner is something like the Kawasaki KLR650. It's a great bike for the price and has been around for 20 years without change. While the '08 year has seen a redesign there are still '07 models on the show room floor that you can probably walk out the door with for $5000. The aftermarket world is flourishing for that motorcycle as well. If you can think of it, it's probably made to fit that bike. It's also rock solid and holds it's value pretty well. I have an '89 KLR with over 38k miles on it and it's had a rough life but it's still going strong. There's even taller windscreens available for it to help you with your height. Beyond that really as a new rider I would definitely recommend staying away from a sport bike at least which you might not have much of a choice being 6'6. No matter what you buy if you're ALWAYS gentle on the throttle you should be OK. But I would steer clear of performance designed bikes until you're comfortable on the pavement.

Your question is too vague and don't take it personal but if you need to ask what 1000cc bike is the best you probably don't have enough skills to experience the difference between any 1000cc sport. You should first ask yourself why am I riding, Where do I want to go with this bike, What do I plan on doing with this bike. My answers to these questions were, I love the feeling of freedom I get from a bike, I want to be comfortable when I travel with this bike but also want it agile enough to take to the twisties, long distance rides commuting weekend warrior stuff and offroad. The bike I purchased was a BMWR1200GS which has all of those characteristics.

The best 1000cc bike is going to be subjective. Everybody has different opinions and preferences. But the most COMMON answer will probably be the Yamaha R1.

There are a lot of brands out there, but I'm more of a Honda guy (even though I have 2 yamahas, a polaris, and had a kawasaki). I've just had no problems at all with any of my hondas. I've driven my friends R1, but I personally don't care for it as much as the Honda CBR1000 Repsol.

Whichever one you think looks the best that is the most comfortable.
The best performing 1000 will most likely be the GSXR1000. the sexiest (in my opinion) is the 1000rr.
If you dont race or go to the track... you wont notice the performance difference between them. Use price, looks (subjective), and comfort to make your decision.
If your not comfortable on a bike, it doesnt matter how fast it is, because you wont be able to reach those performance levels

With todays bikes and technology, it really comes down to the rider. Sure a bike might have more HP or be lighter, but the rider is where races are won.

Definitely the Suzuki GSXR1000.
It's got the power and I find it more forgiving than the others, and I do know how to take a corner fast, Haven't met my match on the road yet!

I have had both and like them both.
If you just want it for the street, just pick the one you like most.

If you are going to race, I say get the GSX-R 1000.
More race parts for that bike.
